News Circles

With the success of our current events report happening on Mondays through to Thursdays, the children have the opportunity to share their own personal news every Friday, usually just after morning tea.

We organise ourselves into small news circles where everyone gets the chance to 'take the floor' and share a piece of news with their group.  We practice our social skills.  We listen to the speaker, make eye contact and put up our hands if we have a question we want to ask.

Physical Education

In Room 9 we have been keeping active with No Child Left Inside and Futsal Skills.  We have heaps of fun with Cathryn from NCLI on a Tuesday when we focus on learning about what makes a great team player and practising our ball skills we have learned in the first two terms.

Room 9 will be able to put this learning into practice at our Olympic Games on Thursday.  We will try to display the Olympic Values of Friendship, Excellence and Respect, as I am sure will the other two classrooms that will be competing!

Spelling - Alpha to Omega

The children are settling into our new spelling programme and visiting the appropriate classroom twice a week.  Spelling words will come home for the children to learn.  Please support them with this, either through asking them the questions, or allowing them to play fun games on Spelling City where they can test themselves as well.

On Friday in class I will test the students on five of these words.

Postcards from England!

We have had two lovely surprises since Freya has been jet setting around the world - we have really enjoyed receiving her postcards and hearing about where she has been on her travels.

We are missing you and Rosie and hope you are having a fantastic time!  I wonder,  can you spot something different about our class full of students?

Week 2 in Room 9

It has been wonderful listening to the reports that have been prepared this week by our first news reporters.  We have learned about a range of current events from Nelson buildings being demolished, a dairy farm where you can milk the cows in The Glen, the Olympic Games and even the Presidency campaign in the USA.

We'll look forward to hearing the next lot of reports and don't forget that everyone gets a chance to share their own personal news every Friday.

We have been planting grasses in our school gardens to help attract native birds and other animals such as skinks and geckos.

Well done to our stars who received certificates today at Pohutukawa's Syndicate Assembly.

Scholastics Book Fair at NCS

We all enjoyed looking around the wonderful books currently being displayed in the Library as we host our very own Book Fair.  The Fair is open before and after school every day this week so pop in and support this school fundraiser.

Our tamariki enjoyed making their wish lists, but everyone knows these are only wishes!!

News Reporter for the Macaws

This term we are changing our news time.  Everyone will have a chance to share personal news on a Friday.  For the rest of the week, each group will be assigned a reporter.  Their job will be to find a current events story which can be local or worldwide.  They will research it and report to the class on their news day.

Well done to our first news reporter for the Macaws.  What an amazing job you did!
