Buddy Time is awesome!

This term we have loved getting to know our buddies in Room 2.  We spend 30 minutes every fortnight doing fun stuff like sports, reading, performing plays, sharing our learning and making things.  Our buddies are great at helping us with things we find tricky and they even hang out with us at break times if we see them.

We are looking forward to next term when we share our library time with them and some of us do buddy reading.  Thanks to all the Room 2 students.  We think you are just amazing!

Our trip to the Museum for Measurement and Statistics

On Wednesday, with many of our wonderful parents, Room 9 walked to the Museum to see Nicky and learn about measurement.  We were introduced to 'scale' and saw many different measuring tools.  We estimated the length of things and experimented with how heavy things are.  We learned interesting facts, such as the length of our arms stretched out from finger to finger is the same as your height.

This was a great introduction to the measurement learning we will be doing at the start of next term and Nicky says we might be able to return to put what we learn into practice, using her wonderful resources.

Maitai Vista Art with Esther

We spent an idyllic afternoon at the Maitai River on our Suter Art Gallery trip on Wednesday,  Using the "plein air" technique (creating artwork in the outdoors) we created landscape art of Our Place.

Esther taught us how to create depth in our artwork.   Through a viewfinder we determined which part of the landscape we wanted to sketch and picked out the focal point (Bridge Street bridge).  We followed the line of the horizon and the winding paths before using the edge of our pencils to create the shading.  After adding details to our landscape we used water colours to emphasize the tone of the landscape.

Our impressive artwork will be displayed in class very soon.  Thank you to all the mums who joined us.  The children and I really appreciate your support.

April already?@@!!?

Well, this week may have been only 3 days, but we seem to have crammed in so much.  Ending with a Fun Day Friday was a great way to finish the week.

At Wa Whanau Helen, the teacher from Room 11, told us we all had to come to school tomorrow (Saturday), as Whaea Pip thought we had had too many days off and we had to have a catch up day.  I was surprised to hear how many children were disappointed to find out she was playing an April Fool's Day trick on us!

Despite having this trick played on them at the start of the day, Room 9 were 'caught out' again when Kathryn told them about a never before experienced event that was due to happen at 10.27am.  At this time, exactly, all the planets were aligning and there would be no gravity on earth.  So, if everyone jumped together, we would float!  Room 9 all held hands, counted down, and jumped ....  but, we didn't float!

I wonder if anyone else has been tricked?  Enjoy watching this priceless video of the children's reactions when they were told it was an April Fool!  I hope they forgive me!!
