Music to our ears

To celebrate the last six weeks of music lessons with Frances Rae, Room 9 performed some pieces they had learned in their sessions for the parents who could make it at lunchtime today.

The children improvised in small groups and performed a piece to Wee Willie Winkie.  The audience listened to different songs associated with food and watched skills being practised on the many different sized glockenspiels as well as lots of other percussion instruments.

Music has been a highlight for many this term.  Thank you Frances!

Fantastic Friday

We ended a week of sickness with a fun day Friday, but missed our friends who are still unwell.  Hopefully a quiet weekend will see everyone fully recovered and back to school for the last week of term.

Mountain Bike event a huge success with some Room 9 students

Last weekend Nelson Central School ran its first Mountain Bike Race event and for the children who took part, it was definitely a huge success.  Ezekiel showed how he takes bike safety seriously and told us he had a great time at the event.

Olympic Star visits Pohutukawa Wa Whanau

At Wa Whanau today the children and teachers were lucky enough to have a visit from Phoenix's aunty, Ruby Tui.  Ruby represented New Zealand in the Rio Olympics Black Ferns team, winning silver medal in the Rugby Sevens competition.

Ruby brought her medal in to show us and answered all our questions, leaving us with an important message.  If you work hard you can do ANYTHING.

Futsal with Ben

Futsal skills with Ben Wright was a great experience for Room 9.  The students demonstrated some amazing skills and the smiles on their faces showed how much they enjoyed themselves.  Thank you Ben!

Happy Hoiho's Speech

Room 9 were very proud of some of the children from the Happy Hoiho reading group who were very brave and spoke in front of the whole school.  They shared the speech they had produced about the Olympic Games.  Well done for working so hard on your research and for speaking clearly and slowly so your speech could be heard.  Ka Pai!
Sorry about the sound quality in this video.  We had technical difficulties! :(

Key Competency stars

Three of our students in Room 9 were recognised at assembly today for demonstrating excellent key competency skills of thinking and showing respect.
We have been focusing on ways to show respect to adults as well as each other and I have seen lots of examples of children in Room 9 displaying their respect towards others.  Keep up the great work.
