Matariki celebrations for the Māori New Year
It was a shame the weather wasn't in our favour on Friday when we celebrated the start of Matariki at Nelson Central School. It didn't put a damper on the Syndicate rotations.
Pohutukawa's three classes got 'mixed' up and we visited all three classrooms to learn about tikanga Māori through traditional games.
In Room 11, with Helen, we learned how to do Strings. In Room 9, with Peggy, we listened to some traditional stories about Matariki before creating our very own Matariki Star.
In Room 12, with Lynley, we learned how to play Tī rākau which took a lot of concentration!
